pediatric pda application in clinical practice
pediatricians find categorized reviews of handheld software and programs that are useful in bedside pediatrics
this page is about calculation drip rates of infusion medicines
The example (see left) shown here is for an ICU 20 pounds patient for whom we decided to start a dopamine infusion at a rate of 6 microgram/Kg/minute. Knowing that each milliliter of a 5 ml dopamine vial contains 5 milligrams we added the vial to 300 ml of normal saline. Tapping on the generate chart button yielded a very easy to implement chart that helped us adjust the increments of the infusion.
Among other tools provided in the black box (med tools) of Epocrates comes the Drip rate calculator.
Free for download and a simple calculator of what usually takes considerable time at the bedside usually in critical situations.
This product allow us to determine the rate (in ml/hr) of infusion when we enter the drug/fluid volume and concentration.
Compatible with different units and quite easy to use with excellent results page in the form of a table.
Certainly an application that helps peds impressing their RNs!
Does not come as a stand alone product and can only be downloaded with other Epocrates packages.
